Accelerated Depreciation :
In 2001, up to $20,000 in eligible assets may be written-off in the year of purchase as a Sec 179 expense. In most cases it is desirable to take the deduction and reduce your taxes accordingly right away. Remember,however, it is your choice and you may elect some other method of depreciation to suit your needs. For example, if this is a low tax year and you expect to be in a higher tax bracket in future years, you could elect a straight line method to save the most depreciation expenses to those future years of higher tax rates. These strategies will maximize the tax savings from writing off new equipment.
